The city precinct ”Havnestad” is located on the Copenhagen waterfront, on the former site of DS Industries’ industrial complex, better known as ”Sojakagen”.

PLH prepared the master plan for the revitalisation of the 200.000 m2 industrial area to a new urban environment with an attractive mix of uses in new and old buildings. The location’s fundamental qualities are found in three key elements; the green (wildlife preserve), the urban (city) and the blue (harbour).

With these qualities as a foundation, PLH created a robust urban development concept, with a development horizon over many years. Along with the master plan, PLH was responsible for the restoration and conversion of a former soy refinery into apartments, the conversion of a factory into modern offices for the National Board of Health and the design of a new office building on Islands Brygge.

PLH, together with the site’s owner, received the urban planning award “Byplanprisen 2003” for the realised master plan.
