Unique waterworks with a common concept
Through thorough analyses of the waterworks' functions combined with aesthetic visions and a focus on sustainability, robustness and longevity, PLH Arkitekter has prepared a comprehensive design manual for the waterworks at Regnemark, Islev and Slangerup. The manual links together function and design, thus forming the basis for all decisions: From the broad lines such as the structure of the works and location of process plants to concrete details such as the choice of facade materials, floors and other elements.
In working with the design manual, the functions of the works have been broken down and divided into three main groups of building blocks, each of which consists of the rooms needed to carry out a function. In this way, the building blocks can be moved around, adjusted in size and adapted to the surroundings depending on the needs of the individual waterworks.
The design manual also ensures that the new waterworks have a consistent appearance and layout – externally as well as internally – so that citizens and visitors can easily identify them as HOFOR's works.
The facades of the three buildings are constructed with a uniform expression in materials such as brick, wooden cladding or fiber concrete, aiming to make the clean, rustic architecture signal efficient, industrial facilities.
The facade materials in the design manual have been selected based on architectural, sustainable criteria, which will ensure high quality and the least possible maintenance in future. The sustainable profile is also seen in the works' energy consumption, which is supplemented, among other things, by solar cells in or around the buildings.
