Summary

Ensuring operational excellence with a future-focused design

PLH were tasked with designing the Control and Maintenance Center for Cityringen in collaboration with MT Højgaard. The project required a facility capable of managing and maintaining a standalone metro system while harmonizing with Copenhagen’s urban development vision.

Functionality meets urban vision

Key insights highlighted the need for a facility that supports the daily operation and maintenance of driverless metro trains while integrating seamlessly into a developing urban area. The design focuses on durability, ease of maintenance, and an aesthetic that elevates industrial architecture in a residential and commercial setting.

Designing a future-ready operational center

The center spans 10 hectares and includes specialized facilities such as workshops, cleaning areas, test tracks, and parking loops, alongside a 4,500 m² main building. The architecture balances industrial functionality with aesthetic appeal, featuring bronze-anodized aluminum façades and translucent polycarbonate panels for optimal daylight. Inside, modern welfare amenities and technical spaces ensure the center’s operational efficiency, while its integration into the urban landscape supports Copenhagen’s vision for a vibrant, mixed-use district.
