Summary

Architectural maintenance and development

Being a main creator of the Danish infrastructure, DSB of course needs architectural support ensuring that buildings and facilities are future-proofed and exceeds functional requirements.

Supporting the core of Danish infrastructure

PLH has had a framework agreement with DSB for years including renovation, restoration and new buildings on many properties. To mention some:
PLH has been architects on the renovation and restoration of DSB Ejendomme’s administration wing at Copenhagen Central Station, which is a 5.000 m2 heritage-listed building. The project includes user processes and the design of the building respectfully altering the original layout, creating a more efficient and comprehensible flow.

PLH has also designed DSB’s two new simulator- and education centers in Høje Taastrup and Fredericia. As part of DSBs journey from fossil fueled locomotives to more sustainable electric ones, the simulators will test and educate DSB train drivers to operate the brand-new electric locomotives. The simulation rooms range from more simple simulations on screens to two simulation rooms with full cab simulators on motion platforms, giving a full, realistic driving experience.

The project entails on both locations’ transformation of existing as well as new extensions. Inside the buildings PLH has focused on creating varied educational spaces and facilities supporting knowledge sharing and inclusion – with an overall theme of plenty of daylight and a warm inviting atmosphere.
On the outside the extensions are designed so they relate to the existing brick buildings and in that way become part of the family. Different styles of details in the brickwork create a visual attraction for passersby so the extension in that way gives back to the local area that they have been placed in.

Additionally, PLH has supported DSB with designing the clearance and maintenance center for the IC3/IC4 trains in conjunction with the move of the line’s terminal station from Copenhagen to Kastrup.
