The competition proposal for Warsaw Museum of Modern Art takes its point of departure from the experience of art; partly in the building itself, partly within the surrounding urban space. The proposal comprises a cultural square that forms a bridge between the parks located north and south of the site and embraces the new institutions, the Palaces of Culture and Science.

The new Cultural Square is envisaged to become an attractive and inviting zone that functions as a stage for a wide spectrum of public activities and cultural events. The square expansive and slightly inclined granite plane of the square extends from the museum to the new music theatre. A starlight pattern of illumination is integrated within the granite paving.

The vision for the museum is to create an open and easily accessible building where the experience of art steps into the foreground. The building creates a transition to the urban space. The museum monumental main staircase of the museum leads visitors from the cultural square, up through the exhibition areas. At the same time, the staircase is experienced as a dominant band of light that cuts through the building.
