The Camp is a creative co-working space, located on the ground floor of the insurance company Tryg’s HQ in Ballerup, just outside Copenhagen. The Camp is a co-working space for tech-start-ups developing products and services within areas where Tryg sees a possibility of synergies. Tryg conducts pilot projects and partner collaborations with the companies in The Camp. The idea is that new perspectives and creative inputs from the start-ups will allow for synergies that will help prepare Tryg for a future where new business models will challenge the core business of the insurance company.

A compact design and construction process
The Camp has approx. 230 workstations placed on the ground floor of building 6 at Tryg’s HQ in Ballerup. The layout of the entire floor consists of a combination of shared desks, smaller closed office spaces, meeting rooms and touch down areas supporting a variety of working styles and collaboration forms – along with cafés and informal meeting places. The reconstruction and refurbishment of The Camp has been carried out after the employees moved into the building. It is a large project (the building is 8.500 m²), that has been carried out in close collaboration with the contractor, and in a very compact design and construction process of only 4 months.

Different zones and a variety of environments support creativity
The Camp has been designed with different zones giving the employees the possibility of flexible working styles with areas dedicated to collaboration, focussed solo work, recharging, relaxation and innovation. The variety of environments supports different ways of working and inspiring rooms create new thoughts and unleashes creativity. An example is an innovation area and several lounge areas with a homey atmosphere for informal meetings, games and relaxation. In the centre of the building regular walls have been replaced with steel framed glass walls in New Yorker style underlining the creative environment while at the same time allowing more daylight to enter the building.

Activating the arcade unites the building
The building is originally designed with and arcade in the centre of the building, dividing the building along the middle. In order to create identity and cohesion across the arcade, PLH has activated the arcade with different environments such as cafés and informal meeting places supporting a variety of working styles. The idea is to create a lively “main street” establishing a sense of cohesion instead of separation. En route through the arcade employees and visitors, encounter different environments – such as areas with a beach atmosphere, table tennis and coffee shops in a cosy and inspiring atmosphere. Wires create the feeling of being in a cosy street, where the inflow of light from the skylights reaches through down to the promenade. Effects of light and shadow on the stone tiles create a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

"We love the creative and inspiring surroundings, which we work in every day. PLH Arkitekter are the masterminds behind the look and layout of The Camp." - The Camp
