Wish to revitalise shopping center and surrounding area

Glostrup Shoppingcenter faces the challenges shared by many shopping centers today, such as the competition of e-commerce and an introverted and outdated physical appearance. It also operates in a suburban downtown that lacks in appeal and struggles to attract residents and visitors. The transformation of the shopping center is at the heart of a larger revitalisation plan for the area, creating a new downtown in Glostrup.

Demand for experiences and a connection with local community

To stay relevant today, shopping centers must provide experiences beyond shopping itself, have an inviting atmosphere, and maintain a strong connection to their local community. The ongoing revitalisation of the downtown area around the center provides a unique opportunity to create an experience that flows seamlessly with the urban context.

Opening up and integrating shopping, experiences and housing

By enhancing the center’s appearance, focusing on more experiences, and integrating it effectively with its surroundings, the project will revitalise Glostrup Shoppingcenter and position it as the go-to destination for both locals and visitors. The redesign features an opened-up façade, with cafés, food court and more facing the street – a natural extension of the urban context. Inside, natural materials reinforce this connection while contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. Finally, the project aims to construct 187 new homes on top of the center, including student housing; a unique feature that contributes to a lively urban environment.

The vision goes beyond just a shopping center. With new housing above it, the aim is to create a vibrant, diverse urban space.
