The Danish and Norwegian Chamber of commerce invited Steen Enrico, senior partner at PLH Arkitekter, to Vilnius, to give a presentation about how companies can create the best working environments for their employees. In 2025, 75 % of the workforce in Denmark will be employees from the generations Y (born 1977 – 1995) and Z (born 1996-2015).

Generation Y and Z

Generation Y wants to change the world and prefers to have a large network of friends at work. It is important to them that their leader acts more like a mentor than a boss. Moreover, it is focal for this generation to collaborate well with their co-workers instead of internal competition, which is why teamwork and workshops are an essential element of their working style.

The younger Generation Z appreciates having order and structure. This generation has studied in modern school environments where they had the opportunity to move around and work in different areas. Therefore, they prefer to have working stations in different zones, where it is possible to contemplate and meditate.

“To attract and retain this younger generations, the companies must create attractive and healthy working environments, which accommodate different working styles” – Steen Enrico

“The new working force needs a free-flowing work environment, which supports individual needs. Therefore, companies should replace their large offices rooms with different zones that accommodate different working styles.” – Steen Enrico

Great working environments create healthy employees

Laura Duksaitė-Iškauskienė, Managing Partner at Master Class Lietuva, gave a presentation about how working is good for the employees’ mental health. However, a bad working culture can lead to physical and mental problems. Especially the younger part of the working force is more likely to suffer from mental health problems. Therefore, it is important that companies create a supporting working culture and environments for their employees.
