PLH was prequalified for the competition for the new two-track, low-energy school in North Zealand.

The proposal preserves the qualities of the site, while improving functionality in terms of arrival and accessibility.

The design concept is based on improving functionality and creating a variety of spaces that offer different possibilities for learning as well as play. The school is designed from an inside -out perspective to create the best possible organization and contact between rooms and functions.

The facades are inspired by chalk drawings on a blackboard and are designed in graphite gray concrete elements with children's drawings in white relief. The idea is that the drawings are to be made by incoming students, to encourage positive involvement in the processes and activities of their new school.

In relation to energy consumption, focus has been placed on passive construction properties that are quite straightforward in reaching the goal of a low energy building with minimal operating costs.

The properties are an integral part of the building itself – compact form, optimized building envelope, minimized heat loss, good daylight conditions – such that the project complies with the requirements of energy class 1 without the need to draw on solar installations.
