The expansion scheme for Jyderup Sports Centre was designed in response to an ideas competition in 2006 sponsored by The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities. The competition’s theme, “Sports Facilities of the Future”, focused on the need for revitalizing community sports facilities to ensure they meet the demands for athletic and cultural activities, both today and in the future.
The concept is based on merging the old with the new in a lively, contemporary building design. The design makes use of the existing building, but rotates the main axis to achieve a strong, angular entrance facade. This provides space for both large and small multifunctional courts which can accommodate both traditional sporting events as well as modern athletic activities. The flexible framework allows the building to serve as a venue for a wider range of cultural events, and more informal and spontaneous community activities.
The new main entrance leads directly to a pathway to the local elementary school and is therefore well integrated and easily accessible in the local environment.
